Visitors + locals alike often ask me where I’d suggest they might go to find a great coffee or share a cosy, long lunch. My answer is very much in tune with the seasons. At this time of year, when autumn is on the brink of winter it’s hard to beat a country drive to Daylesford and surrounds. The trees are alight with colour, the air is crisp and the views are to die-for! Once there, it’s particularly hard to go past Alla Wolf-Tasker’s Wombat Hill House café + store + kitchen garden nestled among majestic trees atop a hill in the Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens.
As soon as you step out of the car your senses are greeted with the particularly delicious + rich smell of ages-old humus, cypress, pine and wild floral fragrances; the kind you’d expect to encounter in a secret garden or winter wonderland. Once inside, the beautiful interior invites you to settle in and relax with a delicious breakfast, brunch or long lazy lunch, read the paper by the crackling fire or enjoy a gourmet pizza and warming glass of red under the vines. Fresh produce is grown and harvested from the potager kitchen garden and Wolf in the Kitchen preserves are a real treat! Alla, Allan + Larissa have created a truly magical winter’s retreat. Enjoy! {d} x
