Last Autumn, AJW Esq. and I set off in our MGA in perfect touring weather; the sun was shining, the shadows were long and the air was cool and fresh. We were delighted to take part in The Trentham Cool Country Classics Vehicle Club’s annual outing to the Myrniong Historic Car Sprint (organised by the Myrniong Hall Committee and the Austin 7 Club). Set prettily amongst undulating paddocks, the Myrniong Sprint is an ‘olde worlde’ delight. It’s quite a thrill to watch a series of MGs race the hill climb just as they did in the olden days. It’s equally wonderful to just relax, take in the country airs and watch the passing parade.
As much as it was a day for enthusiasts of beautiful classic cars it was also a day for enjoying the delights of the autumnal countryside: falling leaves, billowing clouds laden with the promise of rain, vast fields and cattle drovers going about their business along winding roads that lead to new horizons.
One of the delights of living in the country is that there is usually a club for just about everything and it’s usually very well run. AJW Esq. and I thoroughly enjoy our involvement in the very relaxed Cool Country Classic Vehicle Club. So, if you feel inspired to take an autumnal drive, this year’s Myrniong Sprint will be held on Sunday 13 April. $10 admission for spectators, 9:15am – 4pm. Refreshments are available or, better yet, pack a picnic full of local delights! Contact the helpful folk at CCCVC for more information – details below. Enjoy! {d} x
