Today’s special edition Storyboard celebrates the time-honoured country tradition of the Annual Agricultural Show. Whilst these happen throughout Australia and other parts of the world, yesterday was Kyneton’s turn and what a lovely day it was! The Show Grounds were humming with excitement as families, friends & visitors buzzed about the pavilion in anticipation to see who had been awarded the much-coveted prizes for all kinds of wonderful categories from jams, scones, fruit cakes, sponges, herbs, vegetables, flowers, quilting, art, photography & fleeces, to best-in-show horses, dogs, sheep, chooks & even a Master Cook-Off event!
In my happy travels & amongst squeals of delight from children sitting in the shade of a verdant ancient elm tree watching a magician, I happened upon some fellow Countryphiles (who had made their tree change a few years ago) and to their delight they’d discovered they had been awarded First Place in the ‘Any Other Onion’ category! This story, therefore, is a tribute the wonderment of Country and to the joy that winning such delightfully-named categories as ‘Any Other Onion’ can bring! It is also a tribute to the AMAZINGLY generous band of merry volunteers who make the Show a day where the kind of MAGIC that feeds your soul really can happen. Enjoy! x
